Reporting requirements

The incident must have occurred within the jurisdiction of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office (INDIANA). If this incident occurred inside the Bloomington City limits, please call 812-349-2781 for referral to the appropriate law enforcement agency for the jurisdiction where the crime occurred.

You must have a valid e-mail address. To file an online police report, you must have a valid and active email account. A stable and current email is best since you may receive future follow-up information from the department.

If the incident is in progress, call 9-1-1. If the suspect is known or the incident involves a hate crime, please call 812-349-2781 to make a report.

Upon completion of this process:

  • Once the individual submits an incident report, the report will be reviewed by an agency-authorized approver. The agency approver will either:
    1. approve the report and you will receive an MCSO case number
    2. the report will be sent back to you for corrections or additional information
    3. reject the report if it is a duplicate or inappropriate

  • A majority of reports are not assigned to deputies for follow-up based on investigative leads, severity of the crime, and investigative staffing. If follow-up will be conducted on your case, you will be contacted by an investigator.

Please call 9-1-1 if any incidents are still in progress.
