SCAM ALERT!

The scam that never seems to end is recirculating through our community again! MCSO is receiving reports of citizens receiving calls from someone claiming to be employed by the Sheriff's Office, requesting money be paid to excuse parking tickets, tax warrants and missed jury duty, among other things. They will request that you purchase a prepaid card such as GreenDot, MoneyPak, etc and then call them back so you can provide the numbers off the card to them. THIS IS A SCAM!!!  

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office does not call you to demand money.

If you receive a call like this and are not sure, call our office BEFORE YOU PROVIDE ANY PREPAID CARD NUMBERS to anyone over the phone!! Once you give them the digits, the money will be taken instantly and, there is very little that can be done to recover your loss.

EVEN IF THE PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR CALLER I.D. LOOKS LIKE OUR PHONE NUMBER, scammers know how to spoof a caller I.D. number. Because of this, when you use redial, you are NOT calling us, you are actually calling the fake number hidden behind the number displayed. DO NOT USE REDIAL!!
